Chicken wings in sauce

Chicken wings in sauce are a versatile and tasty dish. Here's a recipe for sticky chicken wings in a honey garlic sauce that’s savory, sweet, and perfect for gatherings or a meal:

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs (about 1 kg) chicken wings
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for searing)

For the sauce:

  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup soy sauce (low sodium, if preferred)
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar or rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced (optional but adds a nice zing)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (optional for a deeper flavor)
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes or hot sauce (optional for heat)

Garnishes (optional):

  • Chopped green onions
  • Sesame seeds
  • Fresh cilantro

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the chicken wings:

    • Pat the wings dry with paper towels. Season them with salt and pepper.
    • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the chicken wings and sear them on both sides until golden brown (about 4-5 minutes per side). This step locks in flavor and makes the wings crispier.
  2. Make the sauce:

    • In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil (if using).
  3. Cook the wings in the sauce:

    • Once the wings are seared, pour the sauce over them. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then lower the heat and cover the skillet. Let the wings cook in the sauce for about 20 minutes, flipping them halfway through to ensure they absorb the sauce evenly.
  4. Thicken the sauce:

    • After 20 minutes, remove the lid and increase the heat slightly. Let the sauce reduce and thicken for another 5-10 minutes, turning the wings occasionally to get them well coated in the sticky glaze.
  5. Serve:

    • Once the wings are cooked through and the sauce is thick and sticky, remove them from the heat. Garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, or cilantro, if desired.

Tips:

  • For an extra crispy finish, you can broil the wings for 3-5 minutes after cooking to caramelize the glaze even more.
  • If you prefer baked wings, you can bake them at 400°F (200°C) for 40-45 minutes, then toss them in the sauce.

Enjoy your sticky, flavorful chicken wings!
